I made a candle!

If there was one ‘make’ I would never have considered trying it was candle making, the idea of hot wax and flammable materials seemed like a recipe for disaster, well, when in my hands anyway. But after receiving a candle making set for Christmas, it seemed the decision had been made for me and the other weekend I figured I might as well give it a go.

And as you can see by the pictures... it actually worked! I was too nervous to attempt to take step by step pictures on my first go – juggling stirring the pan of hot wax (was convinced I was going to ruin the pan and wooden spoon) and my camera seemed like that recipe for disaster I mentioned earlier.

Anyway, it was actually fairly easy *faints with shock* and all the materials needed can be brought online so keep your eyes out for a tutorial coming soon!

Burn baby burn.

  1. That candle is adorable :) I really love the colour! Did you make it scented?

Now you're a total pro at basically juggling fire I reckon you should make some in teacups. Because who doesn't love an opportunity to go shopping for second hand teacups?! xxx

    1. Thanks, the kit came with a 'rose' scent, which I did put it, but next time I'd like to try some essential oils or something. Yes I think tea cups should be next! xxx

  3. I went to a candle making shop as a child and made these crazy brightly coloured things out with my brothers. It was so much fun. Then there was the classic beeswax wrap around wick candle, but since then I haven't made any. Recently, I saw a kit like the one you must of used! And I was so tempted to have a go and now even more so. Were you reluctant to burn it though? After you'd made it look so cute?! x

    1. I was a little reluctant but also curious to see if it would actually burn! Xx

  4. Looks fab! And a very lovely colour :-) I was given a candle making kit a couple of years ago as a Christmas present but it's still in my craft area yet to be opened - maybe this year, I'll have to make some time to actually have a go at making one! :-) x

    1. Thanks! Colour was a bit darker than I'd expected, but had no idea how much dye to use. You should, it's great fun! :) x

  5. We made candles in elementary school. I remember doing it on a field trip. I should give it a try now that I'm older.

  6. That looks awesome, I've come across a couple of vintage candle making books and they've always intrigued me about trying to have a go myself but never got around to it. I love the shape of the candle you made, it looks lovely!

    1. I probably wouldn't have done if I hadn't been given the kit, but it was surprisingly easy. Thank you :)
