</center>
<center>
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<center style="text-align: left;">
Simple sewing at its best - you need just the most basic of sewing skills for this super easy DIY. It's also the quickest garment I've ever sewn, taking less than an hour to make. There's no paper pattern to follow, minimal cutting and pinning, and as the idea is that it's over-sized, you can't really go wrong! I used a cotton for my kimono as I wanted something with a bit of structure, but it would also look great in something light like chiffon or jersey. </center>

<center style="text-align: left;">
How to</center>
</center>
</h4>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<center style="text-align: left;">
1. Fold your fabric in half with the inside together and the fold at the top, it should be a landscape shape.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
2. Measure 28cm down from the top fold and then in 25cm to create a rectangle each side and cut out.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
3. Pin together the cut sides and sew a 1.5cm seam. Press flat.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QP8CM7Iug5U/Wd_ATbLdFdI/AAAAAAAAC-c/M4gzeMoluRYpsPSKlvzu9bF22Q2fyh72ACLcBGAs/s1600/diy%2Bkimono%2B%25282%2Bof%2B10%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1062" data-original-width="1600" height="424" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QP8CM7Iug5U/Wd_ATbLdFdI/AAAAAAAAC-c/M4gzeMoluRYpsPSKlvzu9bF22Q2fyh72ACLcBGAs/s640/diy%2Bkimono%2B%25282%2Bof%2B10%2529.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
4. Find the centre of the front of your kimono and draw a line from top to bottom, then cut through the top layer of fabric only. Before you seam the front opening it's a good idea to try it on at this point, to make sure you have cut high enough. I cut another 2cm open after trying it on to get it to hang better.</center>

5. Fold over your front opening and pin then sew a 1.5cm seam.</center>

<h2>

Easy DIY fabric pom-poms to decorate your home or party</center>
</center>
</h2>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Let's face it, pom-poms are back and here to stay - which is no bad thing in my book! So in the spirit of #worldpomination I figured it was only right to make a couple of pom-pom decorations for my next <a href="http://www.sewcraftyonline.co.uk/sew-craft-design-team-new-members-2017/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Sew Crafty Design Team</a> project, to adorn our garden, wedding, home, they could even become the new yarn bomb. And they are so quick to make that you'll have a pile of pom-poms in no time! </center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Of course the gorgeous fabrics can't help but add to how happy these pom-poms make me - colourful confetti spots and hello, gingham! I think all my garden party dreams are coming true. I've used both a large pom-pom maker and even larger cardboard circles to make these so they're lovely and big. Read on for both methods...</center>

<h4>
You will need</h4>
<a href="http://www.sewcraftyonline.co.uk/product/blue-check-polycotton-seersucker/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Gingham fabric</a>*<br />
<a href="http://www.sewcraftyonline.co.uk/product/flurry-cotton-reverse-teal/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Confetti dots fabric</a>*<br />
Scissors<br />
<a href="http://www.sewcraftyonline.co.uk/product/clover-pompom-makers/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Pom-pom maker</a>* or cardboard (or both)<br />
String<br />
<br />
<h4>
To make a fabric pom-pom using a pom pom maker </h4>
1. Cut your fabric into thin strips about 3cm wide. The more fabric strips you have the fuller your pom-pom will look, I used less than half a meter for this pom-pom.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gorYDgHOmuc/WXJRCJekJvI/AAAAAAAAC8s/1GFEBkdRSpUp0TIxoqB5G_g0pluqeZsVACLcBGAs/s1600/fabric%2Bpom%2Bpom%2B%25283%2Bof%2B21%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="426" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gorYDgHOmuc/WXJRCJekJvI/AAAAAAAAC8s/1GFEBkdRSpUp0TIxoqB5G_g0pluqeZsVACLcBGAs/s640/fabric%2Bpom%2Bpom%2B%25283%2Bof%2B21%2529.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
2. Once you have a pile of fabric strips, open one side of your pom-pom maker and wrap the fabric around the arm. Repeat with the other side.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-D7usZaPcy2c/WXJRBRKShJI/AAAAAAAAC8g/8k3ilX1ZtjsIvtU85c9yBYkgAbPn9Ds4QCEwYBhgL/s1600/easy%2Bfabric%2Bpom%2Bpom%2BDIY.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="426" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-D7usZaPcy2c/WXJRBRKShJI/AAAAAAAAC8g/8k3ilX1ZtjsIvtU85c9yBYkgAbPn9Ds4QCEwYBhgL/s640/easy%2Bfabric%2Bpom%2Bpom%2BDIY.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jmHcImm6gGU/WXJRBWvJ4dI/AAAAAAAAC8k/pYRoOfn4DlkqKAquefQJKpoW8vgSkAfaQCEwYBhgL/s1600/easy%2Bfabric%2Bpom%2Bpom%2Btutorial.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="426" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jmHcImm6gGU/WXJRBWvJ4dI/AAAAAAAAC8k/pYRoOfn4DlkqKAquefQJKpoW8vgSkAfaQCEwYBhgL/s640/easy%2Bfabric%2Bpom%2Bpom%2Btutorial.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3. Cut through the middle of each side of your pom-pom maker.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nXt-3Gk4bZM/WXJRCdzH4nI/AAAAAAAAC80/0rnFuhBjDGgw1DCVOT_PNRsHyCXLekhpwCEwYBhgL/s1600/fabric%2Bpom%2Bpom%2B%25287%2Bof%2B21%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="426" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-nXt-3Gk4bZM/WXJRCdzH4nI/AAAAAAAAC80/0rnFuhBjDGgw1DCVOT_PNRsHyCXLekhpwCEwYBhgL/s640/fabric%2Bpom%2Bpom%2B%25287%2Bof%2B21%2529.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
4.Wrap string around the pom-pom maker and pull so that it pulls the fabric together into the centre of the pom-pom maker. Tie a few knots, then pull the pom-pom maker apart to release your pom-pom! Fluff up and trim as needed to get a lovely circular shape.<br />
<br />

<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<h4 style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To make a fabric pom-pom using cardboard</h4>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
1. Draw a large circle with a smaller circle inside onto cardboard and cut out to make a donut shape (dinner plates and candles make good templates), then draw around this to make a second donut.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jerQDPZldN8/WXJRuPjoYFI/AAAAAAAAC9Y/trvej2my8fEpjNW834a1IST5ZEkBYwhNQCLcBGAs/s1600/fabric%2Bpom%2Bpom%2B%25289%2Bof%2B21%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="426" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jerQDPZldN8/WXJRuPjoYFI/AAAAAAAAC9Y/trvej2my8fEpjNW834a1IST5ZEkBYwhNQCLcBGAs/s640/fabric%2Bpom%2Bpom%2B%25289%2Bof%2B21%2529.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<center>
</center>
<center>
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
2. Cut your fabric into roughly 5cm wide strips, I actually made a small cut and then ripped mine, which created a nice frayed effect and created a fuller pom-pom. I wouldn't do this for the smaller pom-pom though as really thin strips just curl up and hide the lovely pattern.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3. Place your two cardboard donuts (damn, I really want a donut now) on top of each other and wrap with the fabric.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<i>Sewing</i> 50 meters of bunting - another wedding DIY to tick off the list! I'm not sure how long it took in total but I finished it one Friday I had off from work after a six hour stint, it did get a bit repetitive but I also loved the quality time in my with the radio and sewing machine. #simplepleasures</center>

<i>Looking</i> after my skin, I've never been one for a particular skincare routine, but seeing as my skin and I haven't been getting along to well recently I figured it was time to do something about it. I headed straight for <a href="http://www.carolinehirons.com/" target="_blank">Caroline Hiron's</a> blog for a good read as I've heard <i>all the</i> beauty bloggers recommending it. My new routine involves exfoliating with Liz Earl (I've used the cleanser for a while but never bothered with the exfoliator, oops), the Origins Clear Improvement charcoal face mask twice a week and moistuirising at night. It hasn't been long but I'm starting to see improvements - if anyone knows the magic secret for getting rid of under eye circles though, I'd be all ears!</center>

<center style="text-align: left;">
<center style="text-align: left;">
Easy DIY wedding cake bunting</center>
</center>
</h2>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
You just can't have a village hall wedding without bunting, eh? At least that's true in my book. So it's only fair that the wedding cake gets a bit of the bunting treatment too! This super easy Mr and Mrs bunting is quick and inexpensive to make, plus you can personalise it with your name or chosen message - 'Just Married' or any cake related quote would also work perfectly.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Now you may be wondering why I've photographed it sitting in a teacup rather than on a cake (!), as I'll be using this at my own wedding later this year I wanted to keep the full reveal for guests on the day. But I'll be sure to share a picture of how it looked after the wedding! </center>

How to make your bunting cake decoration</center>
</center>
</h3>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<center style="text-align: left;">
Cut a long length of your ribbon and iron in half. Then using a pencil and ruler mark out your bunting triangles on one side of the ribbon. My triangles are 2.5cm wide.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9-PSqBgpvnM/WSlRiAqbwRI/AAAAAAAAC7Q/yKaKDjHeyQ8S88YDcQ8_5FSU3Io_C-4qgCLcB/s1600/wedding%2Bcake%2Bbunting%2B%25282%2Bof%2B14%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9-PSqBgpvnM/WSlRiAqbwRI/AAAAAAAAC7Q/yKaKDjHeyQ8S88YDcQ8_5FSU3Io_C-4qgCLcB/s640/wedding%2Bcake%2Bbunting%2B%25282%2Bof%2B14%2529.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Using 3 strands of white thread embroider a letter or heart onto each triangle.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6O7dRQ_6LFw/WSlRpJ_7zUI/AAAAAAAAC7U/4ZaK85f4FhY0GhyCw_VvWKh3n2JQhkjTACLcB/s1600/wedding%2Bcake%2Bbunting%2B%25283%2Bof%2B14%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="426" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6O7dRQ_6LFw/WSlRpJ_7zUI/AAAAAAAAC7U/4ZaK85f4FhY0GhyCw_VvWKh3n2JQhkjTACLcB/s640/wedding%2Bcake%2Bbunting%2B%25283%2Bof%2B14%2529.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Measure and cut a length of bondaweb to go inside your ribbon, make it about 0.5cm thinner than your ribbon.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KZt8mYFmCxk/WSlRxskwj3I/AAAAAAAAC7Y/hPOJarEM-lwWz8BJRK1QRuHNiAJcVgWSQCLcB/s1600/wedding%2Bcake%2Bbunting%2B%25285%2Bof%2B14%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1067" data-original-width="1600" height="426" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-KZt8mYFmCxk/WSlRxskwj3I/AAAAAAAAC7Y/hPOJarEM-lwWz8BJRK1QRuHNiAJcVgWSQCLcB/s640/wedding%2Bcake%2Bbunting%2B%25285%2Bof%2B14%2529.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Iron the rough side of the bondaweb inside of your ribbon leaving the 0.5cm gap near the centre fold.</center>

<center style="text-align: left;">
Easy crochet pet blanket - free pattern</center>
</h3>
<center style="text-align: left;">
You could say I've well and truly caught the crochet blanket bug as I'm back with a second blanket pattern less than a month after <a href="http://floralandfeather.blogspot.co.uk/2017/03/all-colours-granny-square-blanket.html" target="_blank">my first</a>. However, this is such a quick and easy make I just couldn't resist. Also don't worry, I have remembered that I don't actually have a cat (yet), inspired by Leanne from <a href="http://thislittlespaceofmine.co.uk/stash-busting-100-days-of-crochet-challenge/" target="_blank">This Little Space of Mine</a>, this little blanket will be headed to my local Cat's Protection Centre. </center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
The pattern is a super simple eight round granny square joined with a slip stitch. This was one of those patterns that just evolved as I crocheted, if I'd planned things a bit more I think I'd have done a seven round square and then used the join as you go method for the eighth round, as it would make the pattern even quicker. I'll try that for the next one! As it is the cat blanket took just a few evenings to make and used up some stylecraft special DK in Lavender, which I seem to have a particular excess of. The border is Parma Violet also stylecraft special DK.</center>

<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
These mini egg Easter cupakes are <i>so good</i> (I won't lie to you, I'm eating one as I type up this post), they're basically mini eggs and buttercream on top of a mini egg filled sponge with a hint of orange citrus - to stop them being too sickly. So, if you're in need of a Easter bake to share with family and friends, or let's face it, just need an excuse to buy <i>another </i>pack of mini eggs then look no further. Also it's totally fine, encouraged even, to sample a few of the mini eggs just to make sure they're okay before adding to the mixture. ;)</center>

Line your muffin tin with the paper cases and pre-heat the oven to 200C.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Mix the caster sugar, egg, milk, butter, baking powder and self raising flower together into a bowl. </center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Grate the zest of the clementine into the bowl. Then cut in half and juice. Add the juice to the mixture.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Pour in most of your mini eggs, keeping some back to decorate with later.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Spoon the mixture into the muffin tins and bake for about 15 minutes, until a knife comes out clean.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
While they cool. Mix the margarine and icing sugar together to make the icing. Leave the mixture in the fridge until the cupcakes are completely cool.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Ice a 'nest' onto the top of each cupcake and decorate with the remaining mini eggs.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">

Plus pattern + how to stop your giant granny square twisting </center>
</h3>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<center style="text-align: left;">
If you've been reading this blog for a while you may have noticed that I tend to favour quick crochet projects, being the impatient sort of person I am. But a girl can only look at so many beautiful crochet blanket patterns on pinterest and instagram without feeling the need to make her own...</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
I chose the classic giant granny square as my first blanket and used the luscious <a href="http://www.woolwarehouse.co.uk/attic24/stylecraft-special-dk-attic24-colour-pack" target="_blank">Attic 24 colour pack</a> in original by Wool Warehouse - you can read more about how I chose the design in <a href="http://floralandfeather.blogspot.co.uk/2016/07/attic-24-granny-blanket-new-project.html" target="_blank">this post</a>.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
I surprised myself by really loving having a big project on the go. I had to pick it up and put it down a couple of times while I made other things, but always enjoyed having it as a back up. In fact, I'm starting to get itchy fingers again now, thinking about how I could start another one.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
The thing that really kept me going (especially as the rounds got bigger and bigger) was the desire to get to the next colour and watch how each one transformed the look of the blanket. I wanted something happy and bright to cheer up my craft room sofa and it's definitely that! Plus as you can see from some of the pictures, I love it so much that it keeps sneaking down to the rocking chair in our living room too.</center>

Granny square blanket pattern</center>
</center>
</h3>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<center style="text-align: left;">
Yes, you probably know how to make a granny square so a giant granny square blanket might seem like a no-brainer. However, as someone who'd only done two or three round granny squares before, as I added more rounds the square started to twist and turn out of shape. You'll see I asked for tips on this in my post in June last year and once I'd started using them it made a huge difference. So here's the tips I received written into pattern form.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Ch - Chain</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Tr - Treble crochet</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Sl st - slip stitch</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Ch 4, sl st to form a magic loop</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Ch 3, then tr 2 into the centre of the magic loop ch 2, *tr 3, ch 2 three more times. Until you have four sets of trebles. Sl st into top of the chain 3.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Sl st along to the corner, then ch 3, tr 2, ch 2, tr 3 into same space. *tr 3 into next space, ch 2, tr 3 into same space. Repeat three more times until you have eight sets of treble 3. Sl st into top of ch 3 to join, then break yarn.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Flip the work over and join new colour in the middle of one of your sides, not at a corner. </center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Then continue to work tr 3 into each gap with a tr 3, ch 2, tr 3 on the corners and change colour every two rounds.</center>
</center>

<center style="text-align: left;">
How to avoid your granny square twisting</center>
</center>
</h3>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<center style="text-align: left;">
So the parts of the above pattern that help avoid twisting as your granny square grows are: </center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Only make 2 chain stitches at each corner (some traditional patterns chain 3)</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Don't chain 1 in between your clusters of trebles</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Flip your work over after each colour change so you work into both the front and the back (thanks to Paula from <a href="https://www.instagram.com/pollyandherwildlings/" target="_blank">Pollyandherwildings</a> for this tip!)</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Join each new round at the middle of one of your sides, not at a corner.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Easy, but effective. I'm off to go stare at my new blanket some more.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Happy crocheting!</center>
</center>

Our New York trip itinerary! </center>

<center style="text-align: left;">
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Alicia Keys was so right <i>"These streets will make you feel brand new, big lights will inspire you, hear it for New York..."</i> I mean, I knew I'd love New York, but I LOVED New York. From the mesmerising views to the constant city sounds, not to mention the food, it's the most amazing, inspiring city. My Mum and I were there for just four days in February and knew we wanted to make the most if every minute. We planned out a list of our 'must do's' in advance, and came up with a rough idea of how we could fit these into each day. Obviously we went with the flow and the weather once we got there, but it worked out really well - we ticked off all of our 'must do's' and had a fab time!</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
There's still so much more to see (clearly, we need to go back asap), but for a couple of New York first-timers the below itinerary was perfect, so I thought I'd share it here, just in case you're planning your own trip soon. We stayed near Time Square and found this a great base for explore from.</center>

</h4>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<center style="text-align: left;">
<b><br /></b></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<b>Top of the Rock, Central Park and The Metropolitan Museum of Art</b></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
I'd read in advance that the <a href="https://www.topoftherocknyc.com/" target="_blank">Top of the Rock</a> (Rockerfeller Centre) was cheaper and quieter than going up the Empire State and while I can't compare the two, from the Top of the Rock you also get the magnificent Empire State building in the view, so it seems a winner to me. We got the sunrise and sunset ticket, which means you can go in the day and back again at night to watch the sunset or just see the lights - so worth it! </center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
After our morning trip to the Top of the Rock, we made our way to Central Park, stopped at the boathouse for lunch and then headed to <a href="http://www.metmuseum.org/" target="_blank">The Met</a>. We didn't have that long inside, so you may want to stay for longer as it's huge. After a walk back through Central Park (and a bit of watching the ice skaters) we headed for our sunset tour of the Top of the Rock. </center>

Day two</center>

<center style="text-align: left;">
<center style="text-align: left;">
<b><br /></b></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<b>The Highline, Chelsea Market, the Flatiron Building and Grand Central Station</b></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
After a lot of walking on day one we didn't give ourselves any breaks on day two, although did start the day with breakfast at <a href="http://westwaydiner.com/index.html" target="_blank">Westway Diner</a> and the most amazing pancakes with strawberries and maple syrup. And it turns out is the where Jerry Seinfield wrote the sitcom, <i>Seinfield</i>. </center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<a href="http://www.thehighline.org/" target="_blank">The Highline</a> is a really lovely walk with lots of view points and interesting sculpture, it goes right past <a href="http://www.chelseamarket.com/" target="_blank">Chelsea Market</a> so we popped down and had a look around all the amazing food stalls. Sadly we were too full from our pancake breakfast to stop for anything, so in hindsight do the diner on a different day! We then turned the day into our own little walking tour and walked to the Flatiron Building, past the Empire State, popped into the New York public library, then walked down to the Chrystler Building and Grand Central Station. Also there's a Bath & Body works just around the corner from Grand Central, you know, just in case you're in need of some candles. </center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
We finished the day with a trip to <a href="http://ellensstardustdiner.com/" target="_blank">Ellen's Stardust Diner</a>, where Broadway hopeful waiters take turns to preform as you eat - they're all incredibly talented singers, the decor and food is a bit tacky, but it's still great fun.</center>

<center style="text-align: left;">
<center style="text-align: left;">
<b><br /></b></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<b>The Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge and Macy's</b></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
By this point our feet were starting to complain after all the walking so we braved the subway down to Whitehall for the <a href="http://www.siferry.com/" target="_blank">Staten Island Ferry</a>. It was a bit trickier to figure out than the tube is, using a system of letters and numbers as well as colours, but the kind man in the ticket booth helped us figure it out. We caught the free Staten Island ferry for a view of the Statue of Liberty, rather than paying to go to Liberty Island itself, which suited us fine. </center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Back on dry land we walked along the river up to Brooklyn Bridge, stopping at South Street Seaport for some lunch. We walked about halfway across the bridge, amongst the impressive supports and those iconic arches. When we go back I'd definitely walk across the whole bridge and explore some of Brooklyn. Just before our feet gave up, we headed to Macy's for a bit of window shopping. </center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Dinner on day three was amazing, totally by chance we walked past and decided to stop at <a href="http://www.johnspizzerianyc.com/" target="_blank">John's Pizzeria</a> on West 44th Street, we'd seen a queue outside the night before so figured it must be good. The pizza was delicious and as an unexpected delight the restaurant turned out to be in a beautiful old church that has been enclosed and hidden by the buildings around it, but still had a mezzanine and gorgeous circular stained glass ceiling, that looks just like a pizza!</center>

</h4>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<center style="text-align: left;">
<b><br /></b></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<b>Bloomingdale's and MoMA</b></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Luckily our flight wasn't until in the evening so we had time fit in some more sightseeing on our final day. First up we headed to Bloomingdale's (via H&M, because heads up, Bloomingdale's doesn't open until 10am) for a good swoon at all the designer dresses and shoes. On the way out we stopped at the Magnolia Bakery for two of their famous cupcakes. There's not much seating in the shop so we walked our sweet treats down to Central Park and enjoyed them overlooking the beautiful Plaza hotel. </center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Our last stop was the <a href="https://www.moma.org/" target="_blank">Museum of Modern Art</a>, to see Monet's <i>Water Lillies</i> and Vincent Van Gogh's <i>The Starry Night</i>, both were so impressive when viewed up close and personal, a perfect end to the trip. </center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
That's it! Our jam-packed four days in New York City, I hope you find it useful. Have you been to New York? What should we do on our next visit?</center>

If you read my <a href="http://floralandfeather.blogspot.co.uk/2017/01/thoughts-for-2017-not-quite-goals-but.html" target="_blank">thoughts for 2017</a> post back in January you'll have seen that I'm getting married this year; so when it came to picking my first Sew Crafty Design Team project of 2017, it had to be a wedding make! Right at the beginning of planning I fell in love with this image of an <a href="https://uk.pinterest.com/pin/355643701810568485/" target="_blank">embroidery hoop table centerpiece</a> on pinterest (the photo simply links to a photographers website), but luckily I knew I could make my own to add a fun, handmade vibe to our village hall reception.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
These are so simple to make and only took about an evening per number, plus the relaxing nature of hand sewing helps calm the pre-wedding nerves. They're inexpensive and won't break the bank either. Plus you could totally hang one on your wall after as a keep sake and then reuse the other hoops - win, win! </center>

<br /></center>
</center>
<h4>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<center style="text-align: left;">
How to</center>
</center>
</h4>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<center style="text-align: left;">
1. Cut your fabric into a square a few centimeters larger than your embroidery hoop.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
2. Draw or trace your number onto your fabric and insert into the hoop.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
3. Using simple backstitch embroider your number with the embroidery floss. I used the floss at full thickness to speed up the process. Keep the back as neat as possible by weaving in your ends as this will also be on display. </center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
4. Remove any trace of pencil of the erasable pen and iron if needed.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
5. Wrap a section of the outer hoop with your lace or ribbon then re-inset the fabric with the number in the centre.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
6. Make sure you're completely happy with the placement of the number and lace (as you won't be able to move it after the next bit..) then cut the excess fabric from the back of the hoop, keeping as close to the wooden edge as possible. </center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<i>Voila!</i> Stand them against flower filled jam-jars for a pretty table decoration. You could use any left over ribbon and lace to tie around flower vases and candle holders to tie the whole thing together. If you wanted to go even further you could spray paint the hoops first, use patterned fabric, sparkly threads or even beads, the opportunities to make them your own are endless.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>

Most airports and airlines allow crochet hooks in your hand luggage, but it's always worth checking individually with your carrier. Plus a good tip is to take a cheap hook and yarn, just in case they do confiscate it at security on the day.</center>

<center style="text-align: left;">
The cutest fox ears baby hat and link to free pattern</center>
</center>
</h3>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<center style="text-align: left;">
Ta-dah, my first finished crochet project of 2017 <i>and</i> is it not the cutest crochet baby hat ever? I've wanted to make one of these for a while, so a friend (who happens to love foxes) having a baby just before Christmas was all the excuse I needed!</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
It was fairly quick to make and I even had the perfect colours already in my yarn stash (love when that happens). The <a href="http://sweepingupglitter.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/crochet-baby-fox-hat.html?spref=pi" target="_blank">crochet pattern</a> is by Jenny from Sweeping up glitter; it uses US terms but as it’s such a simple pattern I was able to translate it into UK as I went - replacing the dc with tc and then the sc with dc. The only time I got into difficulty was my own fault for not reading ahead on the pattern and crocheting the whole of the ears together in the orange. Oops. I had to unpick a bit to get the brown to sit properly on the tips of the ears, they really make the hat though so it was worth it to get it right. </center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
My friend loved it! I was a little worried it looked too big for a newborn, but it fitted perfectly and was stretchy enough to also fit her two year old. I'm slightly tempted to make some adult sized ones as gifts too, perhaps in a slightly more rust shade of orange to make them a bit more adult appropriate… </center>

<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Firstly, Happy New Year!... I think I can just about get away with still saying that.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Well, I don’t know about you but I’m still really struggling to get out of holiday mode (despite being back at work for a week). I had grand plans of being super organised by January 1st, armed with a list of resolutions, actions and a tidy desk. The reality though was that I had a good long break and completely switched off, and forgot to even buy a 2017 diary. Oops. I have now rectified that last situation, but I still can’t settle on goals or a plan. </center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
So for now I’m just going to look at the big picture of 2017 and let the detail come when I have the headspace for it. As long as you’re moving forward and not standing still, it’s all progress in my book.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/384528506/inspirational-print-motivational-quote?ref=shop_home_active_7" target="_blank"><img border="0" height="510" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-I5c96nt1RMk/WHKQOMQ8jzI/AAAAAAAAC1Y/mZ4k5JzCeukwuBdPKk28Pyv3fZr0c2wRACLcB/s640/dreams%2B2%2B.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<center style="text-align: center;">
<i>Follow your dreams motivational print available from my <a href="https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/384528506/inspirational-print-motivational-quote?ref=shop_home_active_7" target="_blank">Etsy shop</a></i></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Here are the three things I’ll be working towards:</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<b>Plan a wedding</b> – if you didn’t see on my <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/BOkOCE2h8u0/?taken-by=floralandfeather" target="_blank">Instagram</a> we got engaged on Christmas Eve! Naturally I can’t help starting to plan and pin ALL the wedding things, so a fair bit of my time is being taken up with this. It’s a once in a lifetime thing though, so I don’t want to feel guilty about time spent gathering inspiration. </center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<b>Make more things</b> – specifically for my Etsy shop. I really enjoyed creating products and patterns for the floral and feather shop last year and when wedding excitement has died down a bit, I do want to get back to this and have my shop looking great before next Christmas. </center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<b>Create blog content in advance</b> – and generally be more organised about blogging. In my 5 years of blogging I’ve never been particularly organised with it. I’d love to plan in advance and make sure I come up with some really creative and original posts. </center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Now I’ve written it down it really doesn’t look that scary and I’m feeling more motivated already (or that could just be the sugar rush from the three Quality Street I’ve just eaten). </center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
What are your plans for 2017? </center>
</center>
<center>
<br /></center>

<center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
This is one of my favourite posts to write because it gives me a chance to look back over the year and rediscover all of my favourite DIYs, makes and bakes - although these are your favourites (according to google analytics) I’m super pleased that lots of them are my favourites too! </center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
The quilted patchwork cushion cover makes me smile whenever I sit on it (I’m pleased to report it’s very comfy) and we still practically live off Gary’s oat bars - we’re going to need a lot to make up for all the Christmas chocolate too. I’m also happy to see that ‘Four simple ways I’m going to make my life better’ has made the top 5; I was unsure about hitting publish on that one as it was a bit different to my usual style and while I admit I have kind of gone back to eating lunch at my desk, I’ve definitely stuck to the others and feel a lot better for it.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Here’s to a happy, healthy and crafty 2017!</center>

Whether you live somewhere that gets a healthy dose of the white stuff each winter or not, this knitted snowflake bunting guarantees you'll get a bit of snow to admire (and for those of us in the UK, it comes without any travel chaos or panic shopping. Win). Plus the cool blues and Nordic style means it could easily be left up after Christmas as winter bunting too.</center>

As it’s my final <a href="http://www.sewcraftyonline.co.uk/welcome-sew-crafty-design-team/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Sew Crafty Design Team</a> post of the year, I had to go back to the gorgeous DMC Natura Just Cotton yarn, the simple cotton really suits the cool, Nordic vibe. Plus of course the red mini pegs are the perfect finishing touch!</center>

<center style="text-align: left;">
Despite making my own Christmas cards every year I realised I've never actually shown you any, mainly because I'm usually making them in a ridiculous rush two days before Christmas... but thankfully, this year I've been a bit more organised. So today I'm sharing my super quick and easy handmade Christmas card, featuring the most gorgeous glittery felt you ever did see from Sew Crafty shop, plus you can detach the holly and use it as a Christmas decoration the following year!</center>

<center style="text-align: left;">
<center style="text-align: left;">
How-to</center>
</center>
</h4>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<center style="text-align: left;">
First make your holly decorations, I crocheted mine using this <a href="http://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/holly-leaves.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">leaf pattern</a> from Attic 24 and this <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/holly-and-berries-2" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">berry pattern</a> from From Home Crochet. But you could make them out of card, fabric or even upcycle an existing Christmas decoration.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Attach string to your holly decoration and tie into a knot, making sure the knot is hidden behind the decoration.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-w6d9n8j46q4/WFG5KpYVMoI/AAAAAAAACy8/KXbdGzOJCvohGO7hVKKgsNrPbIHvLtZrwCLcB/s1600/diy%2Bchristmas%2Bcard%2B%25282%2Bof%2B12%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-w6d9n8j46q4/WFG5KpYVMoI/AAAAAAAACy8/KXbdGzOJCvohGO7hVKKgsNrPbIHvLtZrwCLcB/s640/diy%2Bchristmas%2Bcard%2B%25282%2Bof%2B12%2529.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CrB5a2sQ6ZE/WFG5PkHr_EI/AAAAAAAACzA/elktWPaxC-Ui0Qm06vr5zLznUfppN58QgCLcB/s1600/crochet%2Bholly%2Bchristmas%2Bcard.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CrB5a2sQ6ZE/WFG5PkHr_EI/AAAAAAAACzA/elktWPaxC-Ui0Qm06vr5zLznUfppN58QgCLcB/s640/crochet%2Bholly%2Bchristmas%2Bcard.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Take your glitter felt and lay right side down, then place your card on top at an angle and draw around it. While you have your pencil in hand use a ruler to find the centre point on the card and put a small dot where you want your peg to go. </center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Y-dUykKWnpA/WFG5Yxg0G6I/AAAAAAAACzE/g-KXg5zIm94jF8ZIM9WBlXKRvFb-FYFywCLcB/s1600/diy%2Bchristmas%2Bcard%2B%25284%2Bof%2B12%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Y-dUykKWnpA/WFG5Yxg0G6I/AAAAAAAACzE/g-KXg5zIm94jF8ZIM9WBlXKRvFb-FYFywCLcB/s640/diy%2Bchristmas%2Bcard%2B%25284%2Bof%2B12%2529.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Cut out your piece of felt and cover the back with double sided tape. Then carefully stick onto the front of your card.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-usKrTIH3mcI/WFG5iDQB0vI/AAAAAAAACzM/ElVvOBYvmHIYkn91PiosWO33XBhJ3YsPACLcB/s1600/diy%2Bchristmas%2Bcard%2B%25286%2Bof%2B12%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-usKrTIH3mcI/WFG5iDQB0vI/AAAAAAAACzM/ElVvOBYvmHIYkn91PiosWO33XBhJ3YsPACLcB/s640/diy%2Bchristmas%2Bcard%2B%25286%2Bof%2B12%2529.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Clip the peg over your decoration then cut a very small piece of double sided tape and stick it on the back of your peg.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-epZQJVRhsag/WFG5rX2rJgI/AAAAAAAACzQ/6druRGwsOYQYviCJSA5TiHQE7kRC8Co3gCLcB/s1600/diy%2Bchristmas%2Bcard%2B%25287%2Bof%2B12%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-epZQJVRhsag/WFG5rX2rJgI/AAAAAAAACzQ/6druRGwsOYQYviCJSA5TiHQE7kRC8Co3gCLcB/s640/diy%2Bchristmas%2Bcard%2B%25287%2Bof%2B12%2529.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Finally stick the peg to the front of your card - over the dot you made earlier, and ta-dah one finished Christmas card, quicker than you can sing <i>deck the halls</i>!</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>

<center style="text-align: left;">
So these last few months have really flown by, haven't they? It'll be Christmas before we know it and I'm starting to worry the festive season will pass in a busy blur, just like autumn did! In an attempt to avoid feeling like 'blink and you missed it', I've been inspired by the autumn manifesto written by the lovely Lou of <a href="http://littlegreenshedblog.co.uk/2016/08/craft-life-aut/" target="_blank">Little Green Shed</a>, to create a winter manifesto full of meaningful ways to slow down and enjoy this festive time of year. </center>

<br /></center>
<h3>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<center style="text-align: left;">
Small bathroom redecoration project </center>
</center>
</h3>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<center style="text-align: left;">
A shamefully long time ago I wrote a post about planning our bathroom makeover; this was back in January, when I did plan almost all of the redecoration. However, it then took us until May to find and agree on a price with a suitable plumber. Also because we did a lot of the work ourselves in snatched evenings and weekends, it took what felt like forever to get it finished. And then life kept getting in the way of me photographing and blogging it for you. </center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
But FINALLY...</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Here's the <b>before</b> - no natural light, no storage and basically no space.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vHkecF_jdJs/WDH6q74BBqI/AAAAAAAACxo/1WEYVQxeUiEBqin2EvQZG9mqp2E6X7HwACLcB/s1600/small%2Bbathroom%2Bmakeover%2Bbefore.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vHkecF_jdJs/WDH6q74BBqI/AAAAAAAACxo/1WEYVQxeUiEBqin2EvQZG9mqp2E6X7HwACLcB/s640/small%2Bbathroom%2Bmakeover%2Bbefore.jpeg" width="640" /></a></div>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
And here are all the pretty <b>afters</b>...</center>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>

<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
The main difference has got to be light and airy feel the room now has. To give the bathroom some much needed natural light we added a sun tunnel to the ceiling, which goes through our attic and out onto the roof, you can't see through it but it lets loads of lovely light in. The perfect solution when you don't have any budget or space for a proper window. See a picture of the bit you can see in the ceiling <a href="http://floralandfeather.blogspot.co.uk/search?q=sun+tunnel&x=0&y=0" target="_blank">here</a>.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
The second difference is the wall paint, although it caused us extra work and a bit more cost to strip all the existing tiles and get the top half of the room plastered I was adamant that it needed doing and I'm so glad I insisted. It's opened the space up and allowed us to use this gorgeous <a href="https://www.dulux.co.uk/en/products/light-space-matt#?selectedColor=1187900" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Light and Space wall paint by Dulux*</a>. It's billed as using Lumitec and light-reflecting particles to reflect light back into the room. I was a little sceptical when reading about it, but figured in such a dark bathroom we needed all the help we could get! I'm really impressed with the job it's done, and actually spent a few weeks wondering why the corners looked so different in this room and finally realised it's because they are lighter than other rooms - so those light-reflecting particles seem to be doing something.</center>

<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
The other really major change is that we've removed the bath and replaced it with a shower cubicle. I know most bloggers love their baths, but in all honesty neither of us ever used it and as it was taking up valuable space we put a shower cubicle and a proper shower in. We've got so much space in return and were able to use the extra wall space to add a heated towel rail instead of a radiator, which we're loving now the weather is getting colder. The lighter and easy to look after vinyl floor has also opened up the space. Plus we have storage! I even have a few extra ideas to squeeze in even more storage if we need to in the future, but as we're okay at the moment I think it's time for a rest first.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">

<center style="text-align: left;">
Autumn might possibly be my favourite season. I say 'might' because I know that come spring and summer I'll also be proclaiming my affection for the them too! But I do love the crisp light, colourful leaves and refreshing air that autumn brings. There are few things better than a long walk through crunchy leaves before returning for a warming drink, good food and an evening bathed in candle light. I always enjoy seeing how others celebrate autumn and luckily my Instagram has been filled with gorgeous photographs this month, so I thought I'd share with you a few of my favourite accounts for autumn inspiration.</center>

<i>Finding</i> treasure in antique shops - I originally saw this book on pinterest and fell in love with the little owl, but was disappointed to find the link went to a sold Etsy listing. That must have been sometime last winter, so when browsing a few books in antique shops at the weekend I couldn't believe my luck when I pulled this one off the shelf and saw the cover! I'm super excited to start stitching it soon.</center>

<i>Reading The Lake House</i> by Kate Morton. I'm halfway through and I'm hooked. <i>Planting</i> daffodil bulbs... 45 of them to be exact. Aside from a gorgeous peach climbing rose and summer tomato plants our small garden has been pretty neglected since we moved in almost two years ago. This month, however, we've been making some big changes - re-cutting borders, pulling out overgrown bushes and creating more usable space. The current side effect of this though is that we have almost no plants left and won't do over the winter, so I want to make sure that by spring we'll at least have some cheery yellow daffodils to enjoy.</center>

<i>Publishing</i> my first crochet pattern on Etsy! You may have noticed that I've been working on the floral & feather Etsy shop this year, it's been a slow process as I work out what feels right. Increasingly I've been keen to sell the patterns for my makes as well as the finished projects, as I've loved the design process. Last week I launched my first pattern - the dip-dye crochet phone case - <a href="https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/473802702/crochet-phone-case-pattern-crochet?ref=shop_home_active_1" target="_blank">see it here!</a> I'm so excited and am already working on the next one, plus have lots of ideas in my head for the future. </center>

<center style="text-align: left;">
<center style="text-align: left;">
Life lessons for any creative person</center>
</center>
</h2>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
The book <i>Big Magic</i> by Elizabeth Gilbert was a pretty big deal... last summer. But of course I didn't read it at the same time as everyone else, I read it at the beginning of this year and loved it. You may wonder why I'm only just blogging about it now though and the reason is that recently I've found myself flicking back through its pages to re-absorb the encouragement and inspiration found within. It may sound a bit daft but it really does help with the inevitable self-doubt that comes with creativity especially when, like me, you're starting out in the scary world of selling the things you make. </center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Uy69-MkXIlw/V_02VohqnbI/AAAAAAAACv0/3UXgmsBLkSURj2ctqiyA-zCBPNMcCHX4ACLcB/s1600/elizabeth%2Bgilbert%2Bbig%2Bmagic%2Breview.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Uy69-MkXIlw/V_02VohqnbI/AAAAAAAACv0/3UXgmsBLkSURj2ctqiyA-zCBPNMcCHX4ACLcB/s640/elizabeth%2Bgilbert%2Bbig%2Bmagic%2Breview.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
So rather than a book review, which would just be me saying how much I enjoyed it, I thought instead I'd pick out three phrases that stood out to me and could help any creative person through life: </center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
</center>
<h4>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<center style="text-align: left;">
"Cooperate fully, humbly and joyfully with inspiration" <span style="font-size: x-small; font-weight: normal;">(page 40)</span></center>
</center>
</h4>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<center style="text-align: left;">
Why it's important: You can't force inspiration. If you sit around waiting for it, it won't strike. So when you do get that exciting idea don't rush it, work with it.</center>
</center>
<h4>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<center style="text-align: left;">
"You do not need anybody's permission to live a creative life" <span style="font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">(page 86)</span></span></center>
</center>
</h4>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<center style="text-align: left;">
And </center>
</center>
<h4>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<center style="text-align: left;">
"Or if you do worry that you need a permission slip - THERE, I just gave it to you. [...] Now go make something." <span style="font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">(page 90)</span></span></center>
</center>
</h4>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<center style="text-align: left;">
Why it's important: I had a cliched 'lightbulb moment' when I read that sentence. Subconsciously I'd been waiting for the 'permission' to give things a go. I don't know whose permission I was waiting for. But at that second I realised I was waiting for it. The lesson here is to stop waiting and simply start, because waiting rooms are pretty boring places. </center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
</center>
<h4>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<center style="text-align: left;">
"Don't rush through the experiences and circumstances that have the most capacity to transform you." <span style="font-weight: normal;"><span style="font-size: x-small;">(page 247)</span></span></center>
</center>
</h4>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<center style="text-align: left;">
Why it's important: I'm SO impatient. Always trying to skip the journey and rush to the destination. But it turns out that's pretty stressful and tiring and, you know, impossible. A good approach instead is to go through the obstacles in your way, rather than try to rush around them.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Those are the three things I'm reminding myself of often at the moment. I've applied them to my creative business, but the book itself is about a creative life, therefore use them as affirmations in whatever way you need - to take that new class, to tackle that big idea or simply in your everyday decisions. And of course, it's a brilliant book so you really should read the whole thing if you haven't already!</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">

If you've read it, I'd love to know what you thought in the comments.</center>

<center style="text-align: left;">
<b><br /></b></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<b>By a complete weaving novice</b></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Weaving is big right now and has been for some time, and you can see why, any craft that encapsulates gorgeous squishy yarns, pom-poms and tassels is kind of guaranteed to be a hit. Especially one which effortlessly crosses the bridge between modern design and traditional techniques (check out this <a href="https://uk.pinterest.com/floralfeather/weaving/" target="_blank">pinterest</a> board if you want to see some stunning examples...).</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
I've tried weaving once before with the freebie kit that came with issue 58 of Mollie Makes. Obviously I loved it, but didn't really know where to go with it next. So as soon as I spotted the <a href="http://www.sewcraftyonline.co.uk/product/weaving-loom-round/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Rico weaving kits</a> on Sew Crafty Shop I knew what my second Design Team make would be! Ever ambitious (or fool hardy) I decided to try the circular weaving loom with some gorgeous <a href="http://www.sewcraftyonline.co.uk/product/dmc-natura-just-cotton-yarn/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">DMC Natura Just Cotton yarns</a> in blush, coral and teal. </center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-J4wFuAgpoFs/V_P7vlbzJvI/AAAAAAAACvQ/OKa9IVJCeq01taegf9qluQQ4OoH0iEl4wCLcB/s1600/how%2Bto%2Bmake%2Ba%2Bcircular%2Bweaving.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-J4wFuAgpoFs/V_P7vlbzJvI/AAAAAAAACvQ/OKa9IVJCeq01taegf9qluQQ4OoH0iEl4wCLcB/s640/how%2Bto%2Bmake%2Ba%2Bcircular%2Bweaving.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
The yarns are just beautiful, super soft cotton and as soon as I saw the shades I knew they would be perfect for a rose. I couldn't help myself and added the pom-poms to finish it off which work well with the bowl shape I ended up with (see tip 5!). There's something so special about sitting down with a weaving loom; it's such a relaxing craft, the movements are rhythmic and it's not something you can rush so it's the perfect craft to unwind with after a day at work.</center>

<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
The Rico weaving loom comes instructions to warp your loom, weave and cut off, which were invaluable to a novice like me. But here's five extra tips I learned along the way: </center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<b>1. At the start of your circular weaving, keep pulling the yarn tight</b></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
After warping (setting up) your loom, the fun bit starts. But the first few rounds of weaving on mine looked anything but pretty, until I pulled the yarn really tight and the wobbly ovals transformed into smooth, even circles.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<b>2. Free-hand is fun</b></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
There aren't many crafts where you can pick up the materials without any prior plan or design and create something beautiful. Embrace it. </center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<b>3. Trying to 'draw' shapes while weaving in a circle will blow your mind </b></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
If you do decide to try to weave a particular design do keep the 'free-hand' bit in mind, my rose shape evolved very naturally and halfway through I did try to draw how to finish it off, but of course you are constantly working with a curve shape which didn't translate to my drawing and mainly just caused me a bit of a headache! As soon as I abandoned the drawing and went back to free-hand, the rest of the rose appeared just fine.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<b>4. Make the most of your edging</b></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Pom-poms and tassels, need I say more?</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<b>5. Iron your piece after cutting off but before tying your ends together</b></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Or if your piece uses big bulky yarns that aren't really suitable for ironing at least be sure to hold it flat before tying your ends together. Otherwise your weaving will curl into a bowl like shape, like mine has! </center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Have you tried weaving on a circular loom before? Let me know if you have any extra tips too!</center>

<center style="text-align: left;">
Baking a citrus Maderia cake because I've scummed to the rule that you can't watch <i>Bake Off</i> without cake! It was also an excuse to try a recipe from last year's recipe book <i>Bake Off Celebrations</i>. I went with a summery citrus cake this time, but can't wait to try some of the autumnal and (dare I say it...) festive recipes, they look SO GOOD.</center>

Exploring the gorgeous <a href="http://www.charleston.org.uk/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Charleston Farm House</a> in East Sussex, the home of Bloomsbury Group members Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant. It became the Bloomsbury Group's country meeting place in the 1920s and beyond and every inch is covered with their decorative paintings and quirky furniture. The effect is stunning and you feel as though you are walking inside a painting yourself. Sadly, you can't take photographs inside the house, but here's one from the equally glorious and colourful garden.</center>

Reading <i>War and Peace</i>; I didn't know the story before watching the BBC adaptation earlier this year and happened to mention to my Mum that although I enjoyed it I felt like the story line moved quite fast, well now I've seen the size of the book I can see why - there's a lot to get through! I'm not very far in yet, the font is tiny and there's so many Russian names to keep track of... have you read it? I'd love to know if you think it's worth persevering with?</center>

Waiting not very patiently for the last of my tomatoes to ripen. Last year they got <a href="http://floralandfeather.blogspot.co.uk/2015/05/recently-ive-been_28.html" target="_blank">this big</a> and then died, so I'm thrilled to have made it this far this year! <center style="text-align: left;">
<b>You will need:</b></center>

Fabrics - <a href="http://www.sewcraftyonline.co.uk/?s=Part+of+Zoe%27s+First+Design+Team+Haul&post_type=product" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">here's all the Sew Crafty ones I used</a></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Batting/wadding 2mm thick</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Thread</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Tracing paper and pencil</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Cushion pad</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Ribbon</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Sewing machine</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Scissors </center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Pins</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
Tape measure</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<b>How to:</b></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
1. To create your pattern draw a 38cm square onto the tracing paper. If your cushion pads are a different size to mine, just make the square a few centimeters smaller than your cushion to make it nice and fitted. Draw your stripe pattern on top and mark the fabric you'll use for each stripe.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2ahRiq5SqcI/V8LZczuG8zI/AAAAAAAACtU/_atbJILOmJYTJKq94G_5LUByKfFTA1wEwCLcB/s1600/free%2Bpattern%2Bfor%2Ba%2Bpatchwork%2Bchair%2Bcushion.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-2ahRiq5SqcI/V8LZczuG8zI/AAAAAAAACtU/_atbJILOmJYTJKq94G_5LUByKfFTA1wEwCLcB/s640/free%2Bpattern%2Bfor%2Ba%2Bpatchwork%2Bchair%2Bcushion.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
2. Cut up your pattern into the stripes (take a photo of it first in case you forget which order you placed the stripes in!).</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
3. This way of making your pattern doesn't include a seam allowance, so pin your pattern to your fabric and mark a 1.5cm seam allowance on each short edge and a 1cm seam allowance on each long edge and then cut out.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">

<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
7. The cushion backs are an envelope finish, so that they don't need a zip. To make them cut two fabric squares 41cm wide x 30cm high. Then on one long edge of each piece pin and sew a 1.5cm seam allowance. </center>
<center style="text-align: left;">

<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
8.Take your ribbon and cut it into four pieces, make sure they are long enough to reach from your cushion and tie around your chair back - I tested mine against my chair and made them 25cm long.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
9. Lay your two back squares on top of each other with right sides facing up. Then position your cushion ties, also facing inwards, at this point it's a good idea to go and test against your chair again to make sure they're in the right place.</center>

<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
10. Lay your cushion front on top and with the right side facing down, pin and sew a 1.5cm seam allowance around the edge. Then cut off the excess fabric at each corner, being careful not to cut your seam. This will make the corners sharper when you turn it out.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">

</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
I never seem to knit anything seasonally appropriate, you could say it was because I'm always behind with my works in progress (these, for example were supposed to be finished for Father's Day in June), but I prefer to think of it as being ahead as they won't be useful until winter, so August is still way ahead of time... ahem.</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
You definitely don't want to be wearing these in August (other than for photographic purposes, like I have of course) because they are super warm and cosy. With their ribbed pattern and cream tone they epitomise classic wellie boot socks at their best - simple, yet stylish and practical. </center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
The basic pattern is a vintage Bellmans Aran Knitting B1207 pattern belonging to my Mum. It's knitted flat from the top down and then seamed together. But instead of following the cable pattern I knitted rib (k4, p2) at the request of my Dad and also cast on 73 stitches rather than the recommended 53 as his current pair were too tight at the top. Because of this the top half did seem to take ages to knit and I'm not a fast knitter. Turning the heel and knitting up the stitches to join took a little bit of figuring out luckily my Mum and YouTube were on hand to advise. I also caused myself a headache by not detailing my pattern amendments very well when knitting the first sock, by the time it came for me to knit the second I'd forgotten what I'd done and my notes didn't make sense! It look me a whole evening to figure out - lesson learned for next time. </center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
<br /></center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
</center>
<center style="text-align: left;">
But as usual now I've finished I'm so happy with them as is my Dad, which is the main thing! </center>
